Elements of AI

I undertook this course by chance, but now I can really treasure how much I have learnt into the world of AI, even though it was very basic and preliminary! It's just the beginning of a long journey, but once our spark is ignited by it's flavour and course material, it simply becomes amazing and you start to cherish the contents.

The course material got me completely fascinated and made me get engrossed so much I finished the entire 6 chapters in 2 and a Half weeks instead of 6! Spending more than 2-3 hrs every day. Many others have finished at speedneck speed of just 4-5 days.
Initially, I took it very casually in doing the exercises, even I did not register for the EoAI support platform, where you can find the Members receiving support from Dr. (Prof.) Teemu Roos (The Course Lead Instructor) from the Department of Computer Science, Univ. Of Helsinki. There were other staffs on the 'Spectrum' platform. The peer review is always there to to interact and extend the necessary help when required.

The subject is well designed, planned and executed with extraordinary simple language to understand and comprehend, followed by examples and Exercises to do immediately, which makes learning a fun!

I can keep writing of the benefits and the well deserved accolades for this course (and it's designers) which is rated very high amongst world rating of MOOC courses. My only suggestion, kindly delve more seriously and sincerely while undertaking the course and do the exercises taking pains to read the material provided repeatedly, since answers are hidden within the given statements. Moreover, attention to language is very important in the exercise questions. Fun Learning for Everyone!!! Cheers!!

My only suggestions to the Univ. Of Helsinki and Reaktor to kindly provide more live examples, which may ease in the understanding process, with Videos wherever possible. Otherwise a stupendous work and the Certificate that you receive is equally remarkable and admirable, and that too absolutely Free of any Cost / Charge........!!!! Isn't that amazing....??

On my quest to understand and explore the world of data-science, I found the course, Elements of AI, in a Medium post about top 20 courses for data-science beginners. I started right away. I found the lessons to be exclusively written for beginners with simple to understand language with real-world examples. The homework problems were provided to be solved on an easy to use interface. The lessons pick up pace and complexity from beginning to the end. The homework makes you think hard about your personal opinion on the techniques and ways to understand the digital world around you in a mind-blowing fashion! At the least, that was what I felt.
All through it was a wonderfully interactive course and kudos to the teachers and the content developers. It was a enlightening experience. Although the course can be revisited even after completion for the lessons, my personal advise would be to take notes for every lesson and read through the sources provided and get a deeper and better understanding of AI through this course.

I think it was an interesting course and something I have been searching for. I already had some pre-knowledge about AI, but this course put it into a better context and made me think critical about certain aspects of AI.

One example where I got more knowledge is the difference between general AI compared to specific AI. When you read about AI in media you get the picture that general AI is something that will come, even if I have been questioning this. Through this course I got more knowledge why to be critical towards progress in general AI. However, it should be valuable to see the other side as well, since I met several people from tech who believe in the progress of general AI.

I appreciate most of the tasks in the course, even if I sometimes did not understand what the goal was or the purpose. One example of a task which I misunderstood was chapter 3, Bayers' theorem. I read in Spectrum that it also was many other who misunderstood the purpose and how to do. I have actually studied statistics and have been working with Bayers' theorem before (however it was described different then), but I still did not get it in this context, it was something with the description which I did not grasp.

I think it was good with information about what you can do next after the course, i.e. links to other courses and youtube talks. I would also think it should be valuable to get information about real meeting places or activities where you can learn or discuss AI after the course. I still have a lot of questions about AI and how to implement it and it's not enough with just online courses, I want to talk with people in real life!

Took this course and really liked it. I found about it online and decided to take it, since thought that it would be an interesting experience. And I was right.
Pros:
This course is well structured. It is free. It has good illustrations, interesting to read. It also gives many additional sources to read.
Cons:
Probably, the main minus is connected with task checking system. Every task, where you need to write anything by your own, there is an easy checking system, where other students give you their marks. It is cool, because, first of all you can get others opinion on the same topic and understand your own mistakes. But it also had serious problem with spam and impunity. Since it is easy to register to the course and you can make as many accounts as you want, therefore there were a lot of people, who would spam in tasks. Additionaly, for one task I couldn't get any reviews and for another I got some sort of 'joke'(?) review: extremely low grades from one student, even though others rated for 4-5 stars.

But at the end, I really liked the course, sadly, ECTS credits cannot be applied in my country.

This is a great beginner course to artificial intelligence because it offers interesting insights with a critical touch to it. As presented in the course, the topic is yet remarkably vague and most so-called "facts" are nothing but guesses and speculations.

The course also provides the student with a thorough understanding of how vastly our lives will be shaped by AI in the future. It is very important to be prepared for the changes that are about to happen in order to be profitable or successful in many different sectors. This is likely the focal reason for why this course is free of charge.

What I dislike about the course, though, is the fact that the grading is incredibly easy. I took the time and read through all the text and then solved the tasks in the default order. However, this course is definitely passable without reading the information. If only the course was slightly more difficult that would encourage the student to make more research before submitting the answers.

Overall: 4 out of 5.

First of all I'd like to say I've been very lucky to read an article about this course I had never heard about before. The Finnish initiative should really be praised and set an example to other EU members.

About the course itself it's meant as a basic introduction to AI with no prior knowledge in the field nor in computer science, maths, etc., so very easy to follow. It's presented in a very contemporary and pleasant way. Short paragraphs make the reading not too boring and exercises are very simple but sometimes a little bit confusing for people with higher degree of education.

Course material is very comprehensive and address many faces of AI and there is a lot examples to illustrate the topic pointing to Web sites such as YouTube or the MIT.

The approach is also very societally oriented and questions us about how we will live with AI.

All in all it's an excellent and very advisable course that enlighten minds and teach a wide range of technical and sociological things related to AI.

I just finished the course and here are some of my thoughts.

As a humanities major and someone who always had a problem with numbers, this course was much harder than I expected -- in a good way though.
If you're having a hard time, please take out a pen and paper and WRITE things down, it's surprising how much it helps. Don't get frustrated (I had a few questions that took me HOURS to solve), I got some questions right and some (the most) were wrong, but that's ok - that's how one learns.
Please give out peer reviews and be FAIR, it's important that everyone gets their review read (just like you'd expect someone to read yours), report the spammers, be fair, and have fun!
Thanks to all the amazing people who are behind this course, I am overwhelmed just by thinking about the work that was put into this.
The certificate took a while to generate and I didn't get ECTS credits because I don't have a Finnish social security number but that's fair I suppose.

Thank you for taking the initiative to build this innovative learning challenge. What I found helpful was, for example, links to articles and videos about various aspects related to artificial intelligence. There was a variety of exercises which helped me better understand artificial intelligence. For example, there were math exercises and exercises that included writing about different questions. For me writing is an opportunity to reflect on various issues and write about what I know. Writing also makes me curious about finding out more about what I do not yet know. In this regard, I also liked that there was peer review possibilities - encouraging people to read and give feedback to work of others. That helped me develop even more interest and learn about reflections / work / ideas / knowledge of other participants. It would be interesting to build out this peer review aspect in order to strengthen community.
