  • Pat Bowden completed this course, spending 2 hours a week on it and found the course difficulty to be easy.

An excellent course for anyone touched by MS: people living with MS, their family and friends. Also health professionals, especially those not currently working in the MS field, but who may encounter people living with MS from time to time. It gives insight into the disease and how it affects people differently, as well as common symptoms and ways to deal with the disease. Topics are covered objectively but they also help everyone understand the emotional impact, especially at diagnosis.

Plus a free certificate and the option for health professionals (and any other interested people) to purchase an enhanced certificate that might be helpful for continuing education hours/points.
  • I am a Recreation Therapist working in healthcare. While I have, and have had, clients with MS, I did not know much about it beyond the visible symptoms. I learned so much throughout this course and I now feel better equipped to support clients with MS. Everyone impacted by or supporting anyone living with MS should take this course. Thank you so much for offering it!

Understanding Multiple Sclerosis (University of Tasmania) was a wonderful course. It was easy to access online and easy to follow. The course offered both qualitative and quantitative information which provided a good overview of the condition. Each section of the course followed on well from the previous section which enhanced learning. The quiz at the end of each section provided an opportunity to examine what had been learnt and to ensure that you had gained an adequate understanding of the content of each section before moving on to the next. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone wishing to gain or improve their understanding of Multiple Sclerosis.

From a MS sufferer's view this has been the very best, most straightforward way to learn exactly what MS is, how it affects my brain, nervous system, body functions, and lifestyle that I have found.
Some information I have found on my own search has been abrupt, too technical for a layman to understand, and, even, just plain wrong.
All facts were enlarged on and explained by professionals with good credentials, and everything in this course is backed up by credible on-line links the student can pursue in his own time.
It beats hands-down the little information my neurologist gave me, and is much easier to absorb and understand than textbooks ever could be.

This is a very informative and interesting course that provides good insight into what MS is, how it might present, who it might affect and what the impacts of MS can be. As an Occupational Therapist I'd recommend this to anyone who might want to learn more about MS, it is suitable to for people who have MS, health professionals wanting a refresher on basic MS biology and pathology or anyone or has an interest in MS.

The time requirements are very low, approx 1-2 hours per week depending on how much additional research and note taking you do. The more engaged you are the more you can get out of this course.

    Definitely recommended!
  • I have SPMS but it filled in some gaps in my knowledge but, more importantly, it made me re-assess my and my partner's behaviour to it. I was diagnosed 10 years ago and old attitudes change and need re-aligning with current symptoms.

This course gave good easy to understand knowledge on what MS is, how it is diagnosed and treatment options. How it effects real peoples lives and the help that is available, which includes a whole multi disciplinary team. You could participate in discussion boards or follow assignments if the participant wanted too, but not a requirement as there would be many different reasons as to why the participant in the course has enrolled. This course is set up for anyone that wants to gain more knowledge on MS to those actually diagnosed with MS and seeking support and advice. Well presented covering a wide range of topics.
