Presentation skills: Speechwriting and Storytelling

Enjoyed the introductory sections very much. I am new to Coursera.

Having just retired, I was looking for courses to do. After going through the list of course offerings, I enrolled on two course, one on international migration and the other on Python programming. But after a week, I decided to unenrol because I no longer found them motivating - the migration course was going into too much detail related to France which I could not relate to, especially when I was interested in international perspectives; the Python course was informative but having been a Fortran programmer 40 years ago, it wasn't that new to me.

I then decided to do a presentation skills course because throughout my career I suffered from doing presentations but never had the time to take a course. And now that I am the chair of a United Nations Association group in my town and that I am reading a lot, I am motivated to share my thoughts with the community and hopefully get them to realise where we are going wrong and maybe do something about it.

After a quick search, I came upon this course. Seeing that it was an Eastern European institution also captured my curiosity. So I enrolled and in one sitting went through the introductory sections which I found very informative, useful and beneficial for me to try as my approach.

While I learned from this course, it was at times a very frustrating experience. The course is presented in English, but often not properly written English. If non-native speakers are to improve skills, how can they do it when they're reading poor examples of written English?

Typos in test questions often changed the meaning of the questions to the point that it was impossible to choose the right answers. You can take the tests again and again until you pass. But if the tests were proofread before posting, students would be able to pass more quickly. It's not that the test questions were bad, just that it's hard to succeed with questions that seem to ask for one answer, and then it turns out the answer was really something entirely different!

The rubrics for the assignments often didn't match the assignment itself. Once you get to the peer review stage, you can see what you're graded against. That's when you find out you'll lose points for not including elements you didn't even know were required.

And last, the instruction team needs more people to respond to student questions. There were times when someone needed an immediate answer but had to wait for days to get it.

This course is to develop all of presentation and communication skills.
Foe me, personally, it is worth attending and dedicating all potential time to be utilized. It is important and necessary in all workplace and academia. large slice of people still suffer from presenting any simple idea or conveying a message despite of their academic skills they still lack of such paradigms (Informing - motivating - entertaining - facilitating decision-making). Honestly, it is applicable and enhancing all skills and expertise that concern any presenter to acquire upon their presentation. In sum, this course is skills-developing and success-building for different aspects of knowledge.. Thanks to the consultant for all efforts made to publish this remarkable work.
